Downtown Memphis Engagement Session | Taylor Made in Memphis

Shemeka and Zerrick ruled the downtown Memphis city streets during this fun engagement session!

Planning the Session

I’m always saying that I’m blessed with the best clients, and last weekend’s engagement session was no exception! After exchanging several emails Shemeka and I met for coffee to talk about her upcoming wedding to her fiancé Zerrick and to see if I would be a good fit as a photographer for them. I knew when I met her that I just loved her and that we were a match! We spent two hours talking, laughing, and looking at samples of my work. Their wedding is in June so I knew we had to get in their engagement session very quickly so their save the dates can go out. If you’re in Memphis you know the horrible, horrible weather we had last week. It rained every day. Actually, that’s an understatement. I felt like I was in the middle of a monsoon! It rained so hard that our roof leaked and our kitchen ceiling started to cave! (Oy, vey! This month of March and I are not getting along very well) We both stalked our weather apps to see what the weatherman was predicting for last weekend, and we got so lucky with a sunny afternoon on Sunday! It wasn’t too hot, it was a little breezy, and it was perfect weather for walking around downtown!

Picture Day

I love to start in the art district because I feel like the fun colors and inviting architecture really sets the mood for an engagement session and helps clients relax and open up. We spent the majority of the session laughing on our walk from location to location, and I even made Zerrick smile and laugh a few times as well. He’s one of those men that “doesn’t smile” in pictures if you know what I mean. When I told him to lean and just smell Shemeka’s pores he couldn’t help but crack a smile and say “I like you!” (Winning!) We ended our session with some pictures on the rooftop of The Madison Hotel and snapped a few on Main Street. A totally random and super awesome gentleman who owned a horse drawn carriage even stopped and let us snap a photo with his horse! (The horse’s name was Prince, so it was quite fitting because Shemeka found her Prince Charming!)

I absolutely cannot wait until their wedding day. I know it’s going to be a blast, and I know that these two are destined for a happily ever after. Enjoy some of the highlights from our session below!
